Marlin Art League

Organized 1964

The Marlin Art League has been in existence since 1964 and its purpose is to provide educational and inspirational stimulation encompassing all creative works of art.

Membership is open to all adults and high school students interested in art. We have a hand’s on program once a month, on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 2:00 p.m.  We meet at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Carter and Easy St., use the Easy St. entrance.  The club dues are $20.00 a year per member.

Every month a member of the league plans the program.  They can bring in a speaker or conduct the program themselves.   The members of the Art League display their art work in various businesses in Marlin and have held several successful art shows.  A challenge project is issued to the club once a year to jumpstart the creative thinking process.

Art League History

A called meeting of interested persons met in 1964 for the purpose of organizing an Art League in Marlin.  Frances Burks and Virginia Walters served as Chairperson and Secretary respectively.

In December of that same year, a survey was made of local talent.  With the help of Rev. H.B. Streater, an Art Show was sponsored by the 12 charter members of the Marlin Art League.  Arrangements for the show were made by Norma Scheiblich and Frances Burks.  Approximately 120 paintings and drawings were placed on display in the Presbyterian Educational Building.
